Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway
I fondly recall reading my first book on self-development when I was 24 which was quite some time ago…
It was called Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway, and it’s all about how confronting fears can lead to personal empowerment.
The clear and practical techniques were something that have stayed with me and have inspired me to stay outside of my comfort zone throughout my life, no matter how small or big the fear or challenge.
I’d like to share my most recent achievement of Feeling the Fear and Getting On and Doing it Anyway.
I hope it will inspire you and remind you that we can do anything if we really want to.
Earlier this year, I completely, not only stepped out of, but took a flying leap out of my comfort zone and tried something that I had never done before (please take note that I am severely claustrophobic with an extreme fear of heights. Strangely, I also have an element of agoraphobia in open expanses such as the ocean or sky).
As a business owner and a parent, I am always encouraging everyone to try new things and to push themselves a bit further. I really want to show that I walk the talk day to day.
It was an amazing experience and one that I can highly recommend.
You may not know that it was National Women Go Gliding Weekend, so it really was a great time to give this a go!
You may also not know that the British Women’s Gliding Team is one of the best in the world.
By my second flight, I even got to take the controls for a bit and fly the glider myself. Over the Cheddar Gorge no less..
It was completely exhilarating and absolutely terrifying all at once.
It was such a huge sense of accomplishment; I faced my fears, and I did it anyway.
Would I do it again?
A resounding yes, and I will be back there in 2025 for the next National Women Go Gliding Weekend.
I hope you’ll be encouraged to keep pushing beyond your comfort zone in any ways that you can find – small steps or giant leaps – progress is what matters.
