What I Learned, Loved, and Will Do Differently at Atomicon 2026

Part 1 of 2

Last month, was my first Atomicon conference. I arrived with no expectations and an open mind… and.. left with a full heart, lots of memories and actionable ideas and inspiration.

What Is ATOMICON?

It’s one of Europe’s largest sales and marketing conferences for small business owners. It’s a one-day conference that takes place in Newcastle on the Quayside with no less than incredibly inspiring speakers, and opportunities to connect with hundreds of like-minded entrepreneurs, all achieved with a fun, friendly vibe. Its mission is to help you grow your business with ideas, actionable strategies, and meaningful new connections.

There are high-energy keynote sessions, thoughtful breakout discussions, expert sofa chats, and a genuinely friendly, community-driven atmosphere all taking place in The Glasshouse, a stunning venue right on the Newcastle Quayside. You can find out more for the 2026 event here.*

Thoughtful Touches are Everywhere

Clearly it was not Andrew & Pete’s (Atomicon founders) first rodeo. From chill-out zones for when it all gets too much, to delicious snacks all through the day and thoughtfully packed lunch bags (many people gathered in circles on the ground outside, picnic-style), it was an experience designed with thought.

Sipping a piña colada during an interesting talk with a group that I’d just met was a highlight. Because who says learning can’t be fun?

Thought provokers from business minds

These are words from some of the speakers that continue to resonate with me:-

“Small asks lead to small results.” Andrew & Pete. Think bigger. Ask bolder.

If you don’t ask,  you don’t get – do you? So let’s be bold and ask for what we want.

“Offer a celebrity service.”. Geoff Ramm.  Raise the bar high on your client experience and how people feel about working with you.

Give people the best possible experience every time and keep improving. People remember how we make them feel better than anything else.

“Celebrate all your successes – every tiny win.” “Live in each moment”. Fearne Cotton

Too often we get caught up in the doing and pushing forward. Stop and look around you!

“Build with a franchise mindset.” Rachel Harrison. Even if you’re not franchising, or intending to, create systems and assets as though you are.

Build with an exit strategy in mind to make a self sufficient and efficient business model. It makes sense doesn't it? Even if this is not your end goal.

“Always take every opportunity to lift others up. A generous spirit is your biggest gift to others. In one way or another, it will come full circle.” Izz Whizzdom

These weren’t just nuggets of experience; they were mindset shifts.

I'd love to share with you how I am turning these, and more, into action at Izz Whizz VA - look out for the Part 2 Atomicon blog in the coming weeks.

What I’ll Do Differently Next Year

Be More Intentional with Networking

Many attendees said they found networking awkward, especially if they came alone. I learned that most people are open to conversation: it just takes making the first move.

I loved just wandering around soaking everything in and chatting with everyone I met or sat with. But next time, I’ll make a (short) list of the people I’d love to meet in person and reach out in advance.

Give Myself Breathing Space

It’s tempting to pack the agenda full, but next time I’ll build in more space to reflect, digest, and take notes between sessions. And see Newcastle. I mean, it’s a great city!

Stay for the Extras

ATOMICON isn’t just about the conference itself, a big part of the experience is the social side: the pre-parties and post-event party. To this end, I have booked accommodation on the town side rather than the quayside where the conference is held, for a longer stay to take full advantage of the extras next time. The reason for booking town side is that it is closer to the party venues but still easy to reach the conference venue. It makes a lot more sense! I notice that most Atomicon veterans do this too.

Build in time for creating action after the event.

This is the big one for me. You take away so much insight, and you will have access to playback all the sessions from the day (good to know that you don’t have to miss anything!) at your leisure. Spending time planning and digesting the learning (and resting) is a good move. It is a full on couple of days!

Final Thoughts

If you’re a purpose-led business owner, freelancer, or solo founder wondering if it’s worth going: yes, yes, and yes. It’s one of those events where you feel both professionally energised and personally understood.

Importantly, it is a chance to celebrate your successes with people who get it and care and further your business network and create friendships and memories. What’s not to love?
